The" fence" postmark, it began to use time? The end of the time?

I found something about this cancelation. It should be a "Barr-Fyke" Cancel. In the document I own ist written, that this was used from 1897-1905. So it is astonishing to me, that this letter was canceled in 1918! It is a US Machine Cancel. I hope this is helpfull to You.
